Kevin Harvick is to celebrate his 44th birthday on Dec. 8, three weeks after the end of the season, but if he won the championship race on Nov. 17 at Homestead, Fla., Harvick would become the third-oldest driver to win a NASCAR top-series championship, behind only Bobby Allison and Lee Petty.

Two of the three seven-time champs, Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr., were each older than 40 when they won their final titles. The King was 42 when he won the 1979 title, and The Intimidator was 43 when he won the 1994 championship. In fact, Harvick found himself in March denying rumors that he would replace the retiring Darrell Waltrip as an analyst on the Fox network’s NASCAR telecasts in 2020. “It’s not gonna happen in the next couple of years, I can tell you that,” Harvick told reporters then.
