At an abandoned gas station, La Cubana serves up real-deal Cuban cuisine to Houston truckers
“There are a lot of Cubans, especially truck drivers who are in transit,” Del Valle Hernandez said in Spanish, “a lot of people come through here to eat.”

The sandwiches, which start at $6, are a favorite among La Cubana’s growing clientele.. The pan con minuta is a crispy fried tilapia sandwich served on a simple hamburger bun with mayonnaise, cucumbers and a slice of lime. La Cubana’s pan con lechon, or roast pork sandwich, has flavorful, supple pork that’s piled onto a bun with grilled onions, tomato and shoestring potatoes.
