A local alert was sent out warning the possibility of extended power outages and substantial storm damage.
The alerts came as droves of passengers disembarked from Catalina Express ferries Friday morning. Several passengers looked at their phones in bewilderment as their devices pinged them just as they arrived in Avalon.
Outside of Avalon city hall, Sheriff's Deparment spokesperson Miguel Meza said Catalina Express would be providing services back to the mainland. Meza said he was going to speak to a Catalina Island representative “to get more information as to see if they’re going to maybe open up a few more spaces, more boat trips.”
