Things may be looking up for Florida's citrus industry.
WPEC News Al Pefley reports on the newest Florida citrus forecast. This year saw about a 30 percent increase from last season's total production. The latest numbers from the USDA show Florida's Citrus Crop for 2023 to 2024 will be an improvement over last season.The USDA forecasted Florida's orange crop will be 20.5 million boxes. This is an increase of 30 percent from last season's final production of oranges.
"It's a positive sign. The crop estimates every year have been declining really for the last 14 to 15 years because of the disease greening. But this is the first time we've seen a bounce, and it's because of the very proactive therapies that growers are utilizing to save their trees," said Doug Bournique, executive vice president of the
The Indian River Citrus League is a citrus growers' trade association, which represents about 200 growers on Florida's east coast from Brevard County to Palm Beach County.
