In the race for Position 2 former League City Fire Marshal Tommy Cones defeated firefighter Billy Fregia with 71.78% of the vote to his opponent’s 28.22%. Cones, 62, has served for 47 years with several Houston area fire departments. The three-way contest for Position 7 ended in a runoff between Sean Saunders, with 38.83% of the vote, and Larissa Ramirez with 38.06%. Ange Mertens trailed with 23.11%. When no candidate gains at least 50% of the vote, the top two contenders face each other in a runoff election. Saunders, 49, is an engineer and paramedic and Ramirez, 39, is a League City project manager.
