Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that Ireland rejoining the Commonwealth is"not something that’s on the agenda" at the moment.
Donaldson said that he hoped for a day"when the Republic of Ireland will join with many other nations in the Commonwealth of Nations, recognising that, whatever our history, and whatever the differences there have been in the past, we have overcome a lot of adversity in dealing with those issues. Varadkar responded to questioning from Áine Lawlor on The Week in Politics about whether or not Ireland would consider rejoining the Commonwealth following Brexit.: We were very glad [Jeffery Donaldson] accepted the invitation to attend the conference. He wasn’t the only one there. Naomi Long leader of the Alliance Party was there, Claire Hanna of the SDLP.
