When the first good norther comes in every year and sends the temperature down close to freezing, I always know of three things that will not have been done yet.There won't be any fireplace fuel in the woodstack.
Then I found three bed slats. They belonged to somebody that I borrowed them from several months ago when a lot of company came and we had to scrounge around and set up an ancient iron bedstead to give everybody a place to sleep. These make good fuel if you can get them out of the trees. I use 40 feet of clothesline wire attached to a brickbat. You swing the brick over a dead limb and then yank it down.
