Months after opening, CTA’s new Brown Line flyover near the Belmont train station is missing pieces of concrete.
The missing pieces are part of upcoming work to repair a cosmetic issue on the new set of tracks, whichas part of a $570 million project to build the flyover and related track reconstruction and rehabilitation. Regular inspections showed a condition known as spalling, similar to concrete flaking or peeling.
Areas of missing concrete and exposed rebar are visible on the flyover because CTA told the contractor to clean out loose material that might have fallen, the agency said. Daily inspections and concrete removal will continue until the issue is repaired.
