I read with interest Michael Lee’s article about Park City School District being on the hook for contaminated soil adjacent to Treasure Mountain Junior High.

What I missed in the article is the source of these heavy metals and why the school district is responsible for storage and/or disposal. Where did this contaminated soil originate? Did the school district create it? My gut response is that Treasure Mountain was named not for the stunning views, educational excellence in the area or the miracle of the best powder snow on Earth, but that some other entity left a $3 million mess for the taxpayers to clean up.
