Well, here we are. It happened again, this time in Arlington at Lamar High School. Where will the next gun-related on-campus shooting happen? The state Legislature is in session and we are less than 12 months removed from the Uvalde massacre, yet Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Gov.
Gold states that a student’s grade is really also the teacher’s grade. I give private lessons. I have students who excel and I have students who, after years of lessons, are at the same level they were their first year. Why? Some students practice, some don’t. I tell students to practice. I contact parents when a child is not practicing. What I can’t do is make the child practice.
Do you want to improve schools? Keep students in the public schools instead of facilitating their exit. Make the schools safe. Pay teachers salaries that attract the best and brightest. Finally, consider year-round school so that students don’t lose half their knowledge each summer.I read Gold’s letter with interest. There is one portion of the equation that he left out.
