Is OLED about to go mainstream?
LG Display has announced today that it has finished the construction phase of its latest OLED production line in China, leaving it ready to massively ramp up its output of the large OLED sheets used inside big-screen OLED TVs., LG Display expects its new factory in Guangzhou to produce, initially, 60,000 OLED sheets a month in sizes 55 inches and above. This would join with the output from LG Display’s Paju factory in Seoul to give LG Display 130,000 TV-sized OLED sheets a month.
LG Display's massive OLED panel output increase could lead to significantly cheap LG Electronics OLED TVs.This level of OLED panel production has the potential to transform the TV landscape, raising the prospect of more affordable OLED TVs than we’ve seen to date, as well as larger and more varied OLED TV ranges.
