“Jealousy and sibling rivalry” were the motives in the fatal shooting of a young Fresno woman and her 3-week-old baby, police said Thursday in announcing two arrests.Yanelly Solorio-Rivera, 18, and her daughter Celine were killed in a bedroom of the family’s Fresno house at 7:20 a.m. Sept. 24, a Saturday morning. The young mother was apparently in bed with the baby in her arms when they were shot with a 9-millimeter handgun, investigators said.
For more than a month, Fresno police investigated the case with the help of other agencies, including federal officers. “That is when the lies, deception and evil intention surrounding this case began to unravel,” Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama said at a news conference Thursday. Both of them were arrested. Balderrama said they confessed during interviews Wednesday and showed “no remorse whatsoever.”
