Gore gains command, mixes up pitches; strikes out 10 in six scoreless innings Saturday against Brewers
MacKenzie Gore was arguably not the better of the two young left-handed starters working Saturday at American Family Field.And his ability to make that happen is one of the traits that has helped him pitch better than his experience should rightfully allow.
Gore, who is 4-1 with a 1.50 ERA, struck out 10 batters in six shutout innings and has not allowed a run in his past 15 innings.According to STATS, he is the only pitcher since ERA became an official stat in 1913 to have an ERA as low as 1.50 while striking out as many as 55 batters over his first nine career appearances.
Milwaukee’s Aaron Ashby, 24, struck out five of the first seven batters he faced and threw 52 strikes among his first 64 pitches. He allowed a run in the third inning and three in the fifth. “That’s important,” he said of the ability to succeed enough early and get better as a game progresses.
