Prof Rory O'Connor is an adviser to the Scottish government on suicide prevention.
"Every government department has a role to play. We need to look at alcohol deaths, drug deaths and suicides in an integrated way - and we need to look at the role of education, social care, poverty and inequalities more widely.""To understand this historically we need to look at the decline in traditional industries," he said.
"Our aim is for any child, young person or adult who has thoughts of taking their own life, or are affected by suicide, to get the help they need and feel a sense of hope," she said.
