The Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd reveals what he loved about Prime Video's The Rings of Power. Helmed by showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, The Rings of Power takes place in the Second Age of Middle-earth. Starring Charlie Vickers, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Robert Aramayo, Markella Kavenagh, and Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, The Rings of Power season 1 debuted on September 2.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Now, one of the original members of the Fellowship weighs in on Prime Video's epic endeavor. In an interview with SyFy, Boyd, who played Pippin in the Lord of the Rings movies movies, confirms that he's watched The Rings of Power and loved seeing Tolkien's world, especially locations like Khazad-dûm and Númenor, come to life on the small screen for the first time.
I, as a fan of Tolkien, I loved seeing all these places again — some of them for the first time. You know, to see Khazad-dûm and Númenor and all these places. I think that gave me the most joy. I think the way they jump from one place to another made it very watchable for me. I think, ‘Oh, here we are in Númenor’ and then it would jump to the caverns of Khazad-dûm. I loved that. And, seeing things like the rings for the first time — all of that is just really joyful for me.
Indeed, on the other side of the spectrum are the viewers who loved the new iteration of Tolkien's world, such as Boyd. As it stands, The Rings of Power's locations and performers remain a major selling point among viewers of the series. Featuring the island kingdom of Númenor, Khazad-dûm, Eregion, and The Southlands, The Rings of Power highlighted that the underlying theme in Tolkien's work is the journey to different lands.
As it stands, Payne and McKay are hard at work on production for season 2. Filming in the United Kingdom instead of New Zealand, The Rings of Power season 2 is expected to have a more canonical story. The Rings of Power, which is aiming for a five-season run, has a chance to offer new insight into Tolkien's visions while setting itself apart from Jackson's big screen trilogies.
