This cold snap isn't going away any time soon.
A status orange warning for low temperature and ice is currently in place, but it will expire today at noon.As for the rest of the week, the Irish meteorological service has urged caution, warning that it will remain"very cold" throughout the week, with"widespread sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches".
In terms of snow, those in coastal areas are most likely to be affected, with Met Éireann forecasting some showers of hail, sleet and snow. The public is also urged to be aware of freezing fog. The yellow weather warning outlines possible complications of the cold weather, which include treacherous conditions on paths and roads, travel disruption, potential supply disruption, potential for burst water pipes and damage to engines, increased risks to vulnerable members of the community, animal welfare issues and slack winds over land leading to reduced wind power generation. The warning came into effect on Saturday night and it will remain in place until 12pm on Friday 16 December.
Tonight could see temperatures dip to -6 degrees, though it will be generally dry with isolated wintry showers. Tomorrow will be"very cold" with frost and ice persisting throughout the day. Temperatures will be between -1 and 4 degrees.
