Malaysia Airports says its Himpun events have been a hit with tourists, and it plans to open Sense of Malaysia shops. FMTNews MAHB HimpunAtKLIA

PETALING JAYA: After successfully holding “Himpun” cultural events at two airports, Malaysia’s airports operator is looking forward to the opening of its “Sense of Malaysia” shops to showcase authentic Malaysian products.

More than 30 local brands were involved at the KLIA event “so it really gives visitors, especially foreign visitors, a glimpse of what Malaysia has to offer,” he said. Cultural activities were held, such as rattan and songket weaving, tanjak-making and caklempong performances. “But these won’t be the type of gifts you usually see in shops, we are sourcing these gifts from local entrepreneurs whose products tell a story as this is something that tourists like, based on our research,” he said.

“We also expect to see higher passenger movements in our other international airports making them the perfect platform for our local entrepreneurs to flourish.”
