The Israel Defense Forces on Friday said the majority of the hostages that were taken to Gaza are still alive.

More than 20 of the hostages are teenagers and children, according to the Israel Defense Forces. At least 10 of them are adults 60 years old and older.

But nearly two weeks after their loved ones were abducted, family members are left struggling with thoughts of what they might be enduring and how to explain to children what happened to their parents.Their 2-year-old son has been asking for them, and no one knows what to tell him. His parents attended the Tribe of Nova festival just before Hamas militants carried out the deadliest civilian massacre in Israeli history. While Eynav Elkayam Levy, 32, was confirmed dead. Or, 33, is missing.

“How can you tell a 2-year-old boy he won’t see his mother anymore?” said Or’s older brother, Michael Levy. The family is stuck between heartbreak and hope, and they pray that Or makes it home alive.
