Many of our appointees are women of color. Their voices are finally being heard on what were once all-male boards. Voices like that of Tracee Adams. When she was first appointed, Tracee became the only non-staff woman on the Wichita Police and Fire Retirement Board of Trustees, overseeing the financial security of Wichita’s first responders. And Tracee is not alone in her service. There are women like Tracee all across the country stepping up and speaking out in leadership roles.
This is a problem because we know that having more women at the decision-making table promotes greater equity and opportunity for everyone. Research shows that greater gender diversity in leadership boosts effectiveness, increases public trust, and—most importantly—improves people’s lives.
