Malaysia's Deputy Minister for Investment, Trade and Industry, Liew Chin Tong, suggests that offering wages equivalent to two-thirds of those in Singapore could entice Malaysians working abroad to return. The minister highlights the issue of wage disparity as a key factor driving Malaysians to seek opportunities in neighboring Singapore. Malaysian workers in Singapore interviewed by The New Paper echo this sentiment, expressing a willingness to return if wages were comparable to their current earnings. They cite a preference for Malaysia's more affordable housing, relaxed lifestyle, and better air quality, alongside the desire to be closer to family.
