A 48-year-old man was arrested for snatch theft at Jalan Bukit Merah on Saturday .

The police were alerted at 10.30am to a case where a victim’s clutch bag containing about $60 cash and a mobile phone was allegedly snatched by an unknown man. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within two hours of the reported crime.The man was to be charged in court on Monday with snatch theft, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and caning.

The police will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
