Nassau Sheriff Bill Leeper said the deputy was “responding to a call for assistance from the Florida Department Of Agriculture on a human trafficking case.”
The 31-year-old man was traveling in a sedan eastbound on SR 200, preparing to turn left onto Daydream Avenue.
As his vehicle was turning and crossing through westbound lanes, the front of the deputy’s SUV struck the right side of the man’s car. Leeper said the patrol SUV overturned in the crash. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and the deputy was taken to Baptist Nassau Hospital.“On Sunday, May 14, 2023, around 1:30 PM a traffic crash occurred involving a Nassau County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle. The preliminary investigation indicates that a NCSO Deputy was traveling westbound on SR-200 just west of the intersection of Wildlight Blvd. responding to a call for assistance from the Florida Department Of Agriculture on a human trafficking case.
