A 44-year-old man will spend the next 16–32 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child in 2020 while they were sleeping, Dauphin County prosecutors said. Heriberto Montanez must also complete five years of probation and register as a sex offender for life, according to the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office. He was convicted in March of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 13, and faced a mandatory minimum of 10–20 years in prison.
Prosecutors said Montanez assaulted an 8-year-old in 2020 while they were sleeping in a Harrisburg home. The child, now 10, testified at trial and identified Montanez as their abuser, according to the district attorney’s office.
