Paul Manafort is scheduled to receive his second — and final — prison sentence Wednesday
In their written submissions, prosecutors didn’t stake out a position on whether Manafort’s sentences from the two judges should run back-to-back or simultaneously. However, they said a light sentence from Ellis in Virginia might be grounds for Jackson adding jail time to bring Manafort’s sentence into the guidelines' range.
Last week, defense lawyers asked Ellis to specify that his sentence run concurrent to whatever Jackson imposes. He declined, but said he might reconsider if Manafort’s lawyers find legal precedent for such a maneuver. If Manafort had successfully helped Mueller’s team in other ongoing investigations, it could have helped him get a shorter sentence.
