Cientos de manifestantes llenaron el vestíbulo principal de la conocida estación Grand Central Terminal en Nueva York durante la hora punta el viernes por la tarde, coreando lemas y desplegando carteles para exigir un alto el fuego mientras Israel intensificaba sus bombardeos sobre la Franja de Gaza.
Vestidos con camisetas negras con la frase “Los judíos dicen alto el fuego ya” y “No en nuestro nombre”, al menos 200 de los manifestantes fueron detenidos por la policía de Nueva York y sacados de la estación con las manos sujetas a la espalda. Según el NYPD, los manifestantes estuvieron arrestados brevemente, se les expedientó y quedaron libres. Algunos mostraron sus pancartas mientras trepaban a las barandas de piedra frente a los paneles con los horarios de salida.
Más de 300 personas fueron detenidas entonces por manifestación ilegal. Israel intensificó sus ataques aéreos sobre la Franja de Gaza el viernes y cortó el servicio de internet y casi toda la comunicación con los 2,3 millones de personas que viven en el sitiado enclave palestino. El Ministerio de Salud gazatí, dirigido por Hamás, dice que más de 7.300 personas han muerto, de las cuales más del 60% son menores y mujeres.
