HANGZHOU – It had been a record that Marc Louis had been chasing for three years and the national sprinter finally got his breakthrough as he broke the long-standing 100m national mark at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Saturday.
While Louis did not advance to the final, his time was enough to better U.K. Shyam’s national mark of 10.37sec set in 2001. Louis, who also has three bronze medals at the SEA Games, finally got his breakthrough on Friday when he registered a new personal best of 10.38sec in the 100m heats at the Asian Games, before he lowered the national record by 0.1 second in the semi-finals on Saturday.
