Tribune columnist Marina Gomberg writes about a now-familiar threat that hit her family recently — and why the need for vigilance still remains after three years.

Marina Gomberg, Salt Lake Tribune columnist.Friends, I feel it my duty to share the story of how my family was recently attacked, and I apologize in advance for the drama. The faint of heart might want to skim from here on out — squint to get the gist so you can protect yourself. That’s all I care about.

I’m quadruple-plus vaccinated at this point, but Miss Rona doesn’t even care. She’s a ruthless beast barreling down the wrong side of the freeway with bloodshot eyes, a smile and way over the .05 limit for alcohol on her breath. The incident started with some light fatigue on a Monday afternoon, but my wife, Elenor, and I didn’t think too much of it. We’re in our late 30s, work fulltime and have a young child. Tired is the new black.

I keep trying to find a way to continue this story in lighthearted satire, but at this point levity escapes me. The raw truth is that with ambulances and hospital time and what appeared to be a mini-seizure or stroke , I don’t have any jokes.
