The injury bug strikes the Mavericks yet again as Christian Wood (fractured left thumb) is out until at least next week.
a couple of hours after Thursday’s practice at their training facility in the Design District. The team stated in a news release that Wood will be reevaluated next week.
Wood, acquired in a trade from Houston last summer, is Dallas’ second-leading scorer and rebounder . He moved into the starting lineup last month and has started 17 of the 42 games in which he has played. The Mavericks did not specify the play on which Wood was injured, but during the Bally Sports broadcast play-by-play voice Mark Followill noted that Wood grabbed his hand and winced after missing a 5-footer and being hit by John Collins with 1:55 left in the second quarter. Collins was credited with a block, but was not called for a foul.
With 29 seconds remaining in the half, Wood grabbed an offensive rebound and slammed in the follow, against grabbing his hand. Wood played the second half with a light wrap around his thumb and hand to stabilize the thumb, finishing with 22 points and nine rebounds.
