Maybank becomes the main sponsor of Berita Harian's Achiever of the Year Awards, launching the BH-Maybank Perkasa Award. This new category honors individuals who have overcome socio-economic challenges through perseverance, education, or business success. The 2026 awards feature three categories, judged by a panel including Berita Harian's editor and Maybank Singapore leaders.
Maybank has officially become the main sponsor of Berita Harian's prestigious Achiever of the Year Awards, marking a significant enhancement to the annual Recognition Program.
This partnership introduces a new award category, the BH-Maybank Perkasa Award, which highlights individuals who have triumphed over socio-economic challenges. Unlike the existing awards recognizing achievement and leadership, this new category will honor those who have demonstrated exceptional perseverance in elevating their life through education, career advancement, business success, or fostering self-reliance.
Inspired by the term 'Perkasa' which signifies strength and courage, this award seeks to shine a light on stories of resilience and social mobility, emphasizing hard work and determination in conquering life's adversities. The 2026 edition of the awards invites nominations across three key categories: the BH Achiever of the Year Award, the BH Jauhari Harapan Award (Young Achiever of the Year), and the newly established BH-Maybank Perkasa Award.
Nominations are open until 18 August and will be evaluated by a judging panel comprising Berita Harian Editor Nazry Mokhtar and Maybank Singapore's leadership, including Alvin Lee, the National Chief Executive Officer. The panel will assess nominees based on their impact on society and their ability to inspire future generations, focusing on the broader societal contributions beyond individual accomplishment. Maybank's involvement underscores the bank's commitment to celebrating resilience, leadership, and dedication to uplifting communities.
In a statement, Nazry Mokhtar of Berita Harian expressed gratitude for Maybank's partnership, noting the significance of introducing the BH-Maybank Perkasa Award in 2026. He highlighted how the new award underscores the publication's mission to recognize those who have demonstrated extraordinary determination in improving their lives through hard work, thereby inspiring society.
Meanwhile, Alvin Lee of Maybank Singapore emphasized that the collaboration with Berita Harian aims to celebrate resilience and the positive impact individuals have on their communities. He noted that the BH-Maybank Perkasa Awards provide a vital platform to showcase inspiring stories, reinforcing the belief that success is not solely defined by personal achievements, but also by the tangible positive contributions made to society.
The judging panel includes notable figures such as Zainul Abidin Rasheed and Sazzali Sabandi, alongside academics and community leaders, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of each nominee's contributions
