UPDATE: GOPLeader Kevin McCarthy on track to lose seventh speaker ballot despite offering holdouts concessions
Negotiations progressed Wednesday night but had not concluded when the House gathered at noon, and indications were the vote totals would remain the same despite a number of concessions McCarthy made in the late hours Wednesday.
Rep. John James nominated McCarthy for speaker on the seventh ballot, while Rep. Dan Bishop nominated Donalds. Pete Aguilar , the incoming House Democratic Caucus chairman, nominated Jeffries, as he has on all subsequent rounds.
