Republicans have been expected to roar to power in Washington, D.C., with numerous forecasts projecting them to capture the House and put up a strong showing for the Senate.
Markets have historically had volatile short-term reactions to elections, but many experts contend that longer-term forces such as inflation, energy prices, and global uncertainty are likely to have a longer-term effect on stock prices. Should Republicans regain control of Congress, it would usher in an era of split control in Washington, D.C. with President Joe Biden remaining at the helm of the White House.
