Tesla and Elon Musk are hosting an Autonomy Investor Day on Monday, April 22, 2019, a stated grand reveal about new Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities and a road map of where they are headed on driverless cars, which has been building suspense in a Mueller Report-like mystique way.

Similar to the suspense surrounding the Mueller Report build-up, Tesla has been relatively tight-lipped about what the FSD fully consists of, and the visionary road map is likewise not yet been displayed. As such, industry insiders have been playing ping pong in terms of speculating about what it all is, and what it all means.

This computer boost with the FSD is apparently being accompanied by some amount of added software that besides aiding driving on highways, provides enhanced parking such as the Summon feature that brings the car to you, and potentially city street driving features. It’s a booster for Tesla’s Autopilot system. That’s all exciting. It’s wonderful to have progress being made. The Tesla is still a car that co-shares the driving task with a human driver.

For Nvidia, this would seem like a bit of a disappointment since they presumably won’t have their chips in the core computer for the go-forward models of Tesla. Tesla might now control their own destiny by having gone proprietary, but that’s a dual-edged sword since it also means they are essentially digging deeper into the electronics business.
