ST. PAUL, Minn. — A goal early in the first half held up as the game-winner as Minnesota United defeated the Dynamo 1-0 on Wednesday night at Allianz Field.
United’s Bongokuhle Hlongwane scored in the game’s 14th minute after a Dynamo turnover at the top of the box. He pounced on the loose ball and scored inside the far post. Minnesota , winless in its previous six matches beat Houston for the sixth straight time. The Dynamo’s loss equals their longest losing streak against a single opponent — a six-match skid at the hands of the Seattle Sounders from 2017-21. The Dynamo fall to 9-60-26 in their last 95 road matches against fellow Western Conference opponents.
The Dynamo finished with more possession time, but couldn’t beat United goalie Dayne St. Clair, who finished with four saves. Houston had a late chance to equalize, but couldn’t convert a free kick. St. Clair also stopped Dynamo forward Sebas Ferreira inside the box in the 62nd minute, denied Thor Úlfarsson later in the second half and Brad Smith’s header in stoppage time.
