Padres pitching prospect Jay Groome walked a career-high eight batters as his struggles at Triple-A El Paso continue
The 25-year-old left-hander walked a career-high eight batters and exited before the fifth inning in Triple-A El Paso’sGroome struck out three and allowed six runs on four hits, including a home run, in 4 1/3 innings in falling to 4-10 and seeing his ERA swell to 8.55.Already on the 40-man roster, Groome competed for a spot on the Padres’ big league pitching staff late into spring training.
He’s simply made it hard to consider him as he’s walked 112 batters in 134 innings and allowed 25 homers and a .312 opponent average despite setting El Paso’s strikeout record with 137. went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, a walk and a run scored.
