Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a broken hamate bone in his right hand.
Ramirez, a two-time All-Star, bent in pain after he fouled the 2-0 pitch from Royals starter Glenn Sparkman. After getting checked out by head athletic trainer James Quinlan and manager Terry Francona, he was pulled from the contest and replaced by Mike Freeman, who worked a walk. Bote, who was demoted to Iowa on Monday, was summoned from the minors after first baseman Anthony Rizzo exited Chicago’s 7-2 loss to Washington on Saturday with mid-back tightness.
The Blue Jays not only optioned right-handers Brock Stewart and Justin Shafer back to Triple-A Buffalo, they also designated right-hander Nick Kingham for assignment.
