Abe Hamadeh, a GOP attorney general candidate, is trailing Democratic rival Kris Mayes by 511 votes in a historically close race.

Abe Hamadeh: The biggest threat to democracy is incompetent government officialsLawyers argued Monday over the merits of a lawsuit filed by Republican attorney general candidate Abe Hamadeh challenging the Nov. 8 election results.

"Mistakes or mere omissions on the part of the elections officials, even though gross, if not fraudulent, will not void an election unless they effect the result or at least render it uncertain," Tim LaSota, lawyer for Hamadeh, said at the hearing. Dan Barr, Mayes' attorney, argued that the plaintiffs, who included Hamadeh, the Republican National Committee and two citizens in Mohave County, filed a lawsuit that was devoid of facts.

Andy Gaona, lawyer for Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, added that the plaintiffs"do not allege insufficient number of illegal votes or an erroneous count of votes that would flip the result of this election."
