His studies have found pretty consistently that two-thirds of women respond to hormone therapy. “You know very quickly whether someone responds or not,” he says. “For the most part you can tell within a week.” If hormone therapy is always the first-line treatment, “we run the risk of inappropriately treating people,” she says.
