Severe storms are in the forecast through Thursday – here’s what you need to know:
Some severe storms may rumble in the Northeast Wednesday and Thursday.Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected in parts of the Midwest, Northeast and South the next few days with damaging winds, hail and a few tornadoes following an active holiday weekend.
A confirmed tornado Monday afternoon damaged a home near Forada, Minnesota, about 115 miles northwest of Minneapolis., according to a Douglas County, Minnesota, emergency manager. Other tornadoes were reported Monday in Pope, Swift, Pipestone and Rock Counties in western Minnesota. A particularly dangerous situation tornado watch was issued across portions of Minnesota Monday afternoon, the first PDS tornado watch to be issued for that area since June 12, 2013.Severe t-storms are most likely from parts of southern Kansas into Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. Large hail, possibly to baseball size or larger, and damaging wind gusts are the main concerns. However, a tornado or two is possible.Scattered severe t-storms are also possible from Missouri to Lower Michigan.
The other area will be from Oklahoma into western Texas, where large hail and strong wind gusts are possible. These winds could churn up areas of blowing dust in western Texas.Thursday's severe threat will largely be in the mid-Atlantic, where scattered severe thunderstorms could produce damaging wind gusts from parts of Virginia into southern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.
