The money is enough to help 2,500 to 3,000 families who are already on the waitlist for the Emergency Rental Assistance program, the agency said.
There are 30,511 families on the waitlist, which is closed to new applicants, spokeswoman Lisa Ryan said. The funding was reallocated by the U.S. Treasury Department from states that didn’t use the money for their own residents. It is the seventh time New Jersey has received additional funds.“While the worst of the pandemic is over, its effects continue to reverberate in the lives of many New Jersey families, impacting their ability to pay past due rent and current rent,” said Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver, who also serves as commissioner of Community Affairs.
