Newport mall opened in 1987, giving shoppers from Hudson County their first major full-service mall. A reenvisioning of Jersey City’s Newport Centre Mall may be on its way as the owner-developer seeks to make amendments that could expand the area’s commercial uses and create more connections with the Downtown neighborhood.
The city council will consider a resolution on Thursday to direct the planning board to prepare an amendment or revise the Newport Redevelopment plan. Some of the revisions will expand the commercial uses of the area to include museums, live entertainment venues, schools, breweries, bakeries and art studios.
