A 40-year-old motorcyclist died in a three-vehicle accident on the AYE towards Tuas on Oct 3, at least the third fatal traffic accident in Singapore within a week.

A 40-year-old male motorcyclist died in a three-vehicle accident on the AYE towards Tuas on the afternoon of Oct 3, Singapore police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.

Police said they were alerted to the accident at about 3.35pm. The collision involved the man's motorcycle and two cars. Police investigations are ongoing.

At about 3.10pm, the Land Transport Authority posted on social media platform X that an accident had occurred on the AYE towards Tuas, after Tuas West Road. It urged motorists to avoid lanes 1 and 2.

Aftermath Captured Near Tuas Checkpoint

Photos of the aftermath uploaded to Facebook show a motorcycle on its side on the right-most lane of a part of the AYE that appears to be near the Tuas Checkpoint.

A white sheet is laid beside the motorcycle. A black car with a dented rear is stopped just in front of the motorcycle.

The accident added to a string of fatal road incidents in Singapore within a single week. It was at least the third fatal traffic accident in that period, and the cases involved motorcyclists and cyclists.

Road Fatalities Fall as Injuries Rise

Traffic Police data shows that road traffic accidents and casualties in the first half of 2026 continued an upward trend seen over the past three years. However, the number of fatalities fell from 79 in the first half of 2025 to 61 in the first half of 2026.

The number of fatal accidents also dropped, from 78 in the first half of 2025 to 60 in the first half of 2026.

The Traffic Police attributed the drop in fatalities largely to fewer deaths among motorcyclists and pillion riders. Those deaths fell from 43 in the first half of 2025 to 28 in the same period in 2026.

Motorcyclists Remain Most at Risk

Despite the overall fall in fatalities, motorcyclists and pillion riders remained the largest group of road users involved in fatal accidents. They accounted for 45.9 per cent of all road deaths.

The number of accidents involving motorcyclists increased from 2,096 in the first half of 2025 to 2,186 in the same period in 2026.

Injuries involving motorcyclists rose correspondingly, from 2,335 in the first half of 2025 to 2,470 in the first half of 2026. Motorcyclists and pillion riders were involved in 55.6 per cent of all traffic accidents from January to June 2026.

The Oct 3 collision is one of several recent incidents under investigation. On Oct 1, an accident involving a trailer occurred at the scene at the junction of Defu Avenue 1 and Defu Lane 7.

Police have not said what caused the AYE collision. The investigation into the death of the 40-year-old motorcyclist continues.
