At issue is the Grade 12 Biology for Christian Schools textbook used at Legacy Christian that suggests while evolutionists “claim the dinosaurs died out millions of years ago and assume their extinction,” creationists “place the change as recently as 4,000 years ago and should not be surprised if extinction is not complete.”

“In fact, there is some evidence what we call dinosaurs may not have entirely disappeared,” says the text.“The puzzle of the ‘Loch Ness Monster’ in Scotland has been extensively studied,” the book states of the alleged plesiosaurus lurking in the murky waters that is a staple of the Scottish tourist industry. “The ‘monster’ has been found on sonar and photographed numerous times.”Article content

This textbook — first published in 1991 by Bob Jones University Press and the subject of a 2008 California discrimination court case — goes on to teach about other cryptid creatures like Zambia’s mokeli or the chipekwe . “These stories may be fanciful, since investigations have not produced any scientific evidence such as animals,” it states. “Perhaps, however, scientists have not looked hard enough for something most of them do not believe exists.”
