After many years on the East Coast, my husband and I moved back to my home state of California, about two hours away from the town where I grew up and where my family still lives. Around the time we moved, I got pregnant, and we welcomed our beautiful baby boy at the end of 2021. My in-laws live across the country but come out to visit every couple of months . My family has only ever come to see us once, shortly after the baby was born.

Third, they love and adore my 5-year-old niece, who they take care of one day a week , so I know that they genuinely find joy in spending time with their grandchildren.
