N.J. ‘American Idol’ contestants Camryn Champion, Cole Hallman make debut in auditions

Both successfully tried out for the 20th season of 'Idol.'

, 16, of Lumberton, was featured in the audition show singing for judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. This is the reality talent competition’s 20th season.

“You can keep the sweet stuff, but I need meet-and-potatoes in the chorus,” Perry told the student from The Monmouth county resident, who brought his guitar to the competition, said he started singing in high school, and likes to sing with Katie.“I think you’re an authentic voice,” Bryan told Hallman after his audition. “I think you’re singing from the right place. You’re not here to be fancy about a bunch of stuff, you just played the song, you sing it from the heart.”

“You can just hear your heart,” Perry told Hallman. “Your heart is just in your voice. Your voice is so raw and passionate.”
