This agreement supports Macau 's shift towards diversifying its economy away from gambling, which currently dominates the local economy. The NBA aims to host an NBA legends celebrity game on December 7th, 2023, as part of its strategy to engage with the Macau community.
This move aligns with Macau’s broader economic strategy, which aims to increase revenue from non-gaming sources, targeting a 60% contribution from non-gaming industries by 2028
