Two outs from the program’s seventh North Coast Section championship, Campolindo was unable to finish off top-seeded Cardinal Newman in a gut-wrenching Division III baseball final on Saturday in Santa Rosa.
Sam Valenti started the winning rally with a leadoff single. One out later, Justice Brinson stroked a double to right field.Nate Niehaus followed with a bunt single on the first-base side to bring in the winning run and give Cardinal Newman its second consecutive Division III title.With the game scoreless in the sixth, the visitors went ahead when Miles Clayton doubled to knock in Campo’s only run.
