The emergency preparation supplies sales tax holiday ends at midnight Monday.
Though online and telephone orders are included in the tax-free weekend, shoppers should know that fees and delivery costs are part of the sales price. So if someone purchases mobile phone batteries online and the shipping cost causes the price to go over $75, the buyer will have to pay the sales taxes.
For purchases made online, as long as someone’s credit card information is entered within the dates of the tax-free weekend, the item can qualify. But if the card is denied and the purchaser doesn’t reenter their information until after the tax-free weekend ends, then they will have to pay the sales tax on the purchase.that people will save more than $1.5 million in state and local sales taxes this weekend.
“Whether it’s fires, freezing temperatures or tornadoes, severe weather conditions can strike at any time, so it is important that families, homes and businesses have the supplies they need to face these and other emergencies,” Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said in a news release. “This tax holiday can help Texans save money while stocking up for emergency situations.”megan.rodriguez@express-news.
