There’s bully-ball. Then there’s whatever kind of beating New Orleans gave the Nets.
The only good thing about Brooklyn’s 130-108 loss to the Pelicans was Kevin Durant and everybody else came through it uninjured. Other than that, it was about as disastrous a season opener as they could’ve pictured in their nightmares, physically dominated before 18,003 at Barclays Center on Tuesday night.
Brooklyn got hammered 36-to-4 in second chance points. Let that sink in and marinate, before moving on to the fact they got outrebounded 64-to-41 and outplayed all-around.Ben Simmons made his long-awaited Nets debut, joining Durant and Kyrie Irving in a new Big Three. But Wednesday they looked like a Big One, with Durant the only one excelling and the other pair alternating between poor and invisible against New Orleans and a returning Zion Williamson.
Durant did his part with a game-high 32 points and four blocked shots. But the rest of the Nets attack looked impotent and inefficient. They created some makeable looks, but couldn’t knock them down. Probably because they were busy getting knocked around by New Orleans.
