Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is set to replace Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson as the screenwriter on a new Star Wars film.
One impending Star Wars film has acquired a new screenwriter. The project, which is set to be directed by Ms. Marvel's Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is currently untitled. It is one on a slate of future Star Wars film projects that are in development while the franchise continues to thrive in television form on the streaming service Disney+ with popular series like Andor and The Mandalorian.
Per Variety, originally attached screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson have officially exited the upcoming Star Wars movie. Taking over screenplay duties is Steven Knight, who was nominated for an Oscar for his 2004 film Dirty Pretty Things. His writing credits also include Locke starring Tom Hardy and Spencer starring Kristen Stewart, but he is perhaps best known for creating the long-running BBC crime drama Peaky Blinders.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Big Screen Star Wars Has Become a Revolving Door This new development is just one in a series of personnel changes that have plagued the film side of the Star Wars franchise in the modern era. The last feature film in the franchise to be released was 2019's trilogy-capping Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. However, even before that, the franchise saw several creatives exit.
This includes Josh Trank leaving a proposed Boba Fett movie, which was eventually precluded by the 2021-2022 series The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+. The spinoff film Solo: A Star Wars Story also saw original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller replaced by Ron Howard midway through production. Even The Rise of Skywalker itself had Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow attached before he was eventually replaced by The Force Awakens' J.J. Abrams.
The upcoming slate of Star Wars film projects has continued this trend, with many promised projects left in an unclear phase of development and several - including titles from Patty Jenkins and Kevin Feige - taken out of active development. However, this particular project, about which no major details are known, may have finally found its final creative team.
