Opinion: New tax would increase gas prices
“I’m calling for a Special Session to address the greed of oil companies,” Gov. Gavin Newsom tweeted.
Someone tweeted as a retort, “Gas prices in Florida are half the price in California. Why is it only California with $7 gas right now!” If the Legislature actually passes a windfall profits tax, the higher levy will only be passed on to California drivers. And what will the tax be used for? We won’t know until Dec. 5, but a good guess would be more infrastructure for electric cars.
